ART START PORTRAIT PROJECT
I have participated as a photographer for the project since 2018.
Each year the project gives middle and high school students an opportunity to explore
their personal identity and envision their lives
beyond circumstance and stereotype.
I collaborate with students and my Art Start colleagues to
develop and execute a conceptual portrait.
The project aims to give the youth participants freedom to explore,
design, and imagine oneself -- the courage to believe in themself,
transform how they see themself, and illustrate how they
want to be seen (#seemebecause).
The Art Start Portrait Project is supported in part by the
National Endowment for the Arts and includes
annual public exhibitions.
